| Remarks | THE 21st JAPAN TRADITIONAL ART CRAFTS EXHIBITION (Urushi section) - selected. At first I applied usuhi (lacquer) on the entire surface of the paulownia box, then covered it with hemp cloth. After that I went through the base preparation process, then applied colored urushi to the lid and layered black urushi on the rest. The choshitsu (carved lacquer) area was created by layering urushi approximately 40 times, applying soft color gradations from white (beige) to purple, followed by 10 additional layers of black lacquer—making a total of around 50 layers—before carving. The white background was made using a technique called jitsuki, in which small dotted patterns are carved into the surface. Fine dotted lines were engraved into the floral motifs, and gold was inlaid into them. |
