Kanshitsu (6) - Wooden parts.

I am working on bodies made of hemp cloths and urushi (Japanese lacquer) with a technique called kanshitsu.

Wooden parts
I made the part that receives the lid with 9mm plywood and the edge on the backside with 2.5mm plywood.

Attaching and smoothing
After they are attached, the shape is smoothed out using a planer and sandpaper.

Applying urushi
I applied ki-urushi on the wooden parts.

Linen cloth
Then I applied the final linen cloth over the entire area.

I applied the cloths partially.
