Artworks Sent to Gallery "Irodori" in Naoshima

A Hidden Gem of a Gallery in Naoshima, Attracting Global Attention
Several of my artworks are currently on display at Gallery "Irodori" on Naoshima, an island celebrated worldwide for its art scene. This gallery is a truly luxurious space dedicated exclusively to Kagawa Shitsugei (Kagawa lacquer art). Its sophisticated atmosphere and discerning eye attract many prominent art-loving figures from both Japan and abroad, who visit quietly and privately.
One of the reasons I find this gallery truly extraordinary is the overwhelming praise it receives from visitors. Despite having received nearly 400 Google Reviews to date, it maintains a perfect "5-star" rating.
No matter how wonderful a place is, it is natural for a few lower ratings to mix in among diverse opinions. The fact that this hasn't happened speaks volumes about the exceptional quality of the artwork and the high level of hospitality and emotion they deliver to each and every visitor.

This month, I am sending a newly finished pair of Tsuishu earrings and some of my classic Tsuishu necklaces.
Three pairs of Tsuishu earrings inlaid with natural pearls. Created by Kaori Sugano. Currently on display and for sale at Kagawa Shitsugei Gallery Irodori in Naoshima, Kagawa.

Tsuishu Earrings

Tsuishu (layered lacquer) uses a base created by repeatedly painting and layering lacquer. Since the surface is often carved, it is considered a form of Choshitsu (carved lacquer). For these earrings, the beautiful layered cross-section of the lacquer serves as the core design, accented with embedded natural pearls.

These necklaces are pieces I have been creating for many years. A tiered food box (Jubako) featuring the exact same motif was on display at Gallery "Irodori" last year. This box found its way to a couple who are active on the world stage.

The origins of flower-shaped motifs can be traced back as far as the Mesopotamian civilization. Across all eras and regions, transcending thousands of years of history, this motif has always been loved and depicted. I believe this reflects a "universal beauty" shared by all humanity, completely untouched by passing trends.

A Carved Lacquer Box and a Kinma Lacquer Panel
In addition to the accessories, I am also sending one carved lacquer box and one lacquer panel to beautifully adorn the gallery space.
Choshitsu Box 'Nobudou' (Wild Grapes) created by Kaori Sugano. A piece where colored lacquer is repeatedly layered over a rounded Kanshitsu (dry lacquer) body, carving out brown wild grapes so they appear to rise three-dimensionally from a light blue background.

If you have the chance to visit the gallery, I hope you will take a moment to experience the unique gloss and texture that only lacquer can offer.
